Why Joseph Brant Hospital?
On this website, I will explain, in chronological order, the events that occurred during my most recent hospitalization at Joseph Brant Hospital. My concerns are specifically about the conduct and care provided by Dr. Kumaranayake and Dr. Lee, as well as Joseph Brant Hospital as an organization and its handling of my subsequent complaint. I will explain what happened, what was communicated to me, what I believe was not done, and why I ultimately decided to raise these concerns publicly.
I will also explain my experience with JBH's complaint process and why I question whether its Patient Experience department provides a meaningful mechanism for independently investigating and resolving serious patient complaints.
The following individuals, have been included, and kknow of this complaint: Paul Clarke, Dr. Prasanna Kumaranayake, Dr. Rukamayake Lad, Dr. Rahima Nenshi, Ashley Davidson, Jordanna Fry, Kevin Klein, Ashlyn Gill, Leslie Motz, Patient Experience, Corporate Communications

The Right of Canadians to Speak on Matters of Public Interest
Canadian law recognizes important protections for criticism and communication on matters of public interest. These include the defences of truth (justification), fair comment, and responsible communication on matters of public interest.
The Supreme Court of Canada has recognized that public-interest discussion deserves meaningful protection because freedom of expression and the public's ability to receive information must be balanced against the protection of reputation. Fair comment protects recognizable opinions based on facts, while responsible communication can protect publication on matters of public interest where reasonable diligence has been exercised in verifying serious allegations.
This website is therefore committed to documenting facts, distinguishing facts from opinions, relying on firsthand experiences and supporting records wherever possible, and providing responsible commentary about matters we believe are of legitimate public interest.
Short Documentary
We are currently planning a short documentary based on different patient’s personal experience at Joseph Brant Hospital.
Joseph Brant Hospital has been informed about the planned documentary. We will provide the hospital with an opportunity to review the issues raised and to provide its own comments and perspective, which we intend to include as appropriate.
